The first national EO Conference took place from 8th-12th September 2015 on the campus of University of Southampton. The RSPSoc, NERC NCEO and CEOI-ST communities were brought together for the first time in one large, exciting conference focused around the European Commission and ESA’s Copernicus programme.
The theme for this conference was ‘Earth Observation in the Sentinel Era’. This year will be a remarkable year in Earth observation history with two of the Sentinel satellites (1 and 2) already in orbit and Sentinel 3 planned for launch, putting in place significant components of the Copernicus Programme.
The technical programme covers virtually all aspects of EO, including sessions of great relevance to the CEOI community on future EO missions and technologies. In addition to the excellent technical programme there was an exciting social programme which includes an ice breaker event at the Aegas Bowl cricket stadium (with an event for early career researchers), an evening cruise with buffet around the Southampton Solent and an annual conference dinner at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel.
