Emerging Technologies for Earth Observation Conference (May 2019)
The CEOI held a 2-day Emerging Technologies for Earth Observation Conference at Cosener’s House in Abingdon on 1st and 2nd May 2019. The goal of the meeting was to reveal and discuss new and emerging developments in EO instrumentation and mission concepts, and to examine how these developments will benefit the UK in terms of science, societal and commercial benefit.
Quantum Technologies for Satellite Gravity Measurement (April 2019)
Joint workshop: National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), Centre for EO Instrumentation (CEOI) and the UK National Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Metrology.
This workshop focused on the potential offered by new Quantum Technologies for the next generation of gravity sensors, the technologies that will enable these missions and the benefits which can result for science, society and the economy. It discussed how disruptive Quantum Technologies and new actors are changing the traditional Earth Observation landscape in gravity measurements, and the new opportunities which will result for the public and private sectors.
CEOI Technology Showcase (December 2018)
The CEOI held a Project Showcase on the 10th December 2018 at ECSAT, Harwell. The primary aim was for project teams to present CEOI-funded projects completed in 2018, to describe the objectives, the technology developments and the main achievements.
Earth Observation Showcase – Emerging Applications Powered by Innovative Technologies (October 2017)
The Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) and the Satellite Applications Catapult hosted a joint technology showcase workshop on Thursday 26th October 2017 at Satellite Applications Catapult Harwell Campus, aiming to foster links between cutting-edge EO instrumentation specialists and users of both the data and downstream applications coming from these technologies.
The workshop focused on the changing Earth Observation (EO) landscape from both an upstream and a downstream perspective, looking at current and upcoming technologies and applications, and considering market trends and how these might evolve by 2030.
Emerging Technologies Workshop (May 2017)
The CEOI held a 2-day Emerging Technology Conference at Cosener’s House in Abingdon in May 2017. This conference was open to all interested parties. Sessions included:

– A presentation of CEOI and UKSA Strategy for EO Technology 2017-2020
– Innovative new technologies for commercial EO missions
– New missions opportunities
– A look into the future
Advanced Manufacturing Techniques for Earth Observation and Space Technology (February 2016)
The CEOI-ST, in collaboration with the Satellite Applications Catapult, held a 1-day Challenge Workshop on “Advanced Manufacturing Techniques for Earth Observation and Space Technology” at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, on 11th February 2016. The meeting explored recent developments in advanced manufacturing, and how these techniques apply to Earth observation instrumentation and space technology in general.
Airborne Demonstrator Opportunities (October 2015)
The CEOI-ST held a 1-day Challenge Workshop on “Airborne Demonstrator Opportunities”, at the Astronomy Technology Centre at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, on 7th October 2015. The meeting explored current platforms and opportunities, and current users shared their experience of flying a variety of payloads.
CEOI Technology Conference (April 2015)
The CEOI-ST held a 2-day Technology Conference at Cosener’s House in Abingdon in April 2015. This conference was open to all interested parties, and brought together personnel from recent CEOI projects to showcase and discuss their work and its context of science needs, commercial needs and mission opportunities. We also invited NSTP participants who are performing projects related to Earth Observation to attend and present their work as posters.
Space Technology Showcase (November 2014)
The Centre for EO Instrumentation and Space Technology (CEOI-ST) hosted its Fourth Biennial Technology Showcase on Thursday 13th November 2014 in London. The Showcase featured the practical outcomes of many years of research, discussing the installations, hardware, software, and results of very different types of Sensor and Instrument Technologies. The Showcase also highlighted new research programmes underway. There were opportunities for attendees to see some of the developments, and to meet the teams.
Emerging Technologies Challenge Workshop (April 2014)
The 3rd Emerging Technologies Challenge Workshop was held over the 2 day period 30th April to 1st May 2014 at College Court, Leicester.
The workshop explored scientific and commercial EO measurement challenges, and presented new sensor and instrumentation technology to the community to stimulate novel measurement concepts. The audience consisted of EO scientists, commercial applications engineers and entrepreneurs, and technologists from academia and industry and examined all EO measurement domains.
UAVs for Remote Sensing Workshop (March 2014)
The CEOI-ST held a round-table consultation, bringing together industry representatives from the Remote Sensing, GIS and UAV sectors to discuss and provide input on market trends, challenges and opportunities that will inform CEOI-ST’s strategy for the next generation of earth observation / remote sensing instruments.
CEOI Technology Strategy Workshop (July 2013)
This round-table workshop was held in central London on Wednesday 10th July 2013 at Regents College. Its input was the technology roadmaps and the indicative missions discussed at a recent CEOI Future Missions Challenge Workshop. The workshop considered how CEOI projects can move to exploitation, and the options and priorities for investment of the £2-3m funding likely to be available to the CEOI programme over the next 2-3 years.

Final Review for the CEOI 5th Open Call held on behalf of the UK Space Agency
The Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) held its Technology Projects Review Day on behalf of the UK Space Agency, when 19 CEOI projects funded in 2012/13 were presented. These projects are nearing completion and cover a broad range of technologies, instruments and missions important for future Earth observation from space.

Remote sensing technologies – opportunities to innovate, license / collaborate / supply
Following on from two successful technology showcase events in 2008 and 2010, the Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) hosted Innovation in Remote Sensing on Wednesday 23rd January 2013, at Hamilton House, NUT, in London. This one day event provided a great opportunity to catch up with the latest Earth observation instrumentation technologies, as well as highlighting potential areas for licensing, collaboration or supply.
