The Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) and the Satellite Applications Catapult hosted a joint technology showcase workshop on Thursday 26th October 2017 at Satellite Applications Catapult Harwell Campus, aiming to foster links between cutting-edge EO instrumentation specialists and users of both the data and downstream applications coming from these technologies.
The workshop focused on the changing Earth Observation (EO) landscape from both an upstream and a downstream perspective, looking at current and upcoming technologies and applications, and considering market trends and how these might evolve by 2030.
Objectives
- Provide delegates with a clear overview of the Earth Observation chain from upstream sensors through technology integration and data to downstream applications
- Showcase the state of the art EO technology including Copernicus, Earth Observation constellations enabled by small-satellites and EO analysis trends.
- Present emerging technologies
- Foster knowledge-sharing, enabling the development of new market-facing EO technologies
- Networking, Table Top Displays, Poster Panels and 1:1 meetings
Key Note Speakers
Key note speakers from the European Space Agency and from Earth-i, gave an overview of the rapidly emerging landscape of satellite constellations.
These constellations are particularly interesting in the Earth Observation (EO) field as they are powered by highly innovative technologies and are enabling a wide range of new products, services, and applications.
The European Space Agency talked about the European Copernicus constellation which is providing new data and services to governments, industry and a wide range of other organisations.
Earth-i covered the rapidly emerging small satellite constellations and how they are transforming both the space sector and the services offered by wider industries and governments.
